I love the feel of a fleece jacket, but only before it goes into the washing machine for the first time. Once it gets washed, the cotton gets all balled up, and the softness just vanishes.
Now I'm not the type of person who doesn't really care if my pants, shirts, or jackets gets washed regularly (in case you're wondering, I DO draw the line at undergarments). In fact, some clothes, like jeans, feel much better if they haven't been washed in a while. Of course, if a shirt stinks, or is visibly dirty, then by all means I'll toss it in the hamper. I don't consider myself a slob.
My mother got me a new red fleece jacket over Christmas break. When I first put it on, it felt great, especially after wearing my blue Izod fleece jacket all fall and winter that's like 4 years old. In fact, it felt so good that I began to wear it everyday and EVERY NIGHT. After a few weeks, Becky noticed that I had worn that jacket continually, without washing it, for about 10 days straight (except when I was at Church). I have to admit, she was right. But I smelled the jacket, and I really didn't think it smelled.
Because it's fleece, lots of random stuff gets stuck on it, like hairs, lint, pollen, stuff like that. During my meetings at work, I am constantly pulling those loose things off. My colleagues probably think I'm a freak.
Anyways, the red fleece finally had to go in the hamper today. Bryce was freaking out because Becky was reading to Emma ("Need Mommy, need to see her. Noo, need her!!") and I wouldn't let him go see her. So to try to calm him down, I had to hold him. Of course, he his head was resting on my shoulder, and when I finally handed him off to Becky, I looked down and my entire left side was covered in snot.
Oh well. I'll probably just buy a new jacket; I'm not holding my breath for having a soft fleece after it gets washed.
